Trainer: Pratt Street has a barrier this time so look out for an improved run
With a better draw, light weight and skilled rider, trainer Stephen Gray is expecting an improved run from Pratt Street in Singapore on Sunday.
The seven-year-old tackles the last race at Kranji, a S$50,000 event for class four horses and on his recent work, Gray believes he can run into the money.
“He’s a lot better than last time, a lot fitter, and he gets his chance to get on the board.
“I don’t know whether he can win - there are a couple of better ones in the race - but they have to carry a lot more weight.
“With only 52kg, he’s getting down to a winnable weight and I think he can win one of these races.”
Gray is delighted to have engaged Melbourne rider Patrick Moloney for Pratt Street and says from his improved gate he should be able to ride a race on the horse.
“It’s just too hard here when you draw wide, like he did last time. You get back and can’t make up the ground.
“Drawn five he should be able to run three or four lengths closer and that will make all the difference.”
Gray was very happy with Pratt’s Street’s fresh-up sixth on July 12, when he dropped to the rear from gate 10, came widest on the turn and ran on nicely to be only 4.7 lengths from the winner.
It was only his second run back from a long spell after he bled when fourth last November.
“He’s getting fitter all the time and I’d like to think he’s at least a place chance on Sunday.
“He’s certainly looking good. He’s done really well in recent weeks.”
Pratt Street has a record of two wins and eight placings from 33 starts for S$130,932 in stakes and while getting long in the tooth Gray says he has more ahead of him.
