Sarge gives Lincoln Sky the green light to go to the races after second trial at Randwick
Lincoln Sky was outsped in his trial at Randwick today but showed trainer John Sargent that he is ready to race.
Pitted against far superior opposition in an open 1200 metre heat, Lincoln Sky finished seventh of nine, 10 lengths behind Scholarly who clocked 1:14.68 in the heavy ground.
But given the winner has a five from 10 record, runner-up Fabrizio has won eight races and third-placed Wolfe, four of his five starts, Sargent isn’t panicking.
As the winner of just one of his eight starts, Lincoln Sky was the baby of the field but still pleased rider Travis Wolfgram with his effort.
“He showed good gate speed and was able to get into a nice handy spot behind the leaders,” Wolfgram said.
“He travelled well for me, even though the track’s quite testing out there, but the others had a bit more nip than him.
“He’s going to be a nice provincial type of horse up over ground. We’ll see the best of him at staying distances.”
John Sargent … “Once you get up to a mile and 2000 metres in Sydney the races are very winnable.”Sargent was happy with the performance, which he said was a lot better than his first on July 12 when he tailed the field home.
“He still looks big in condition - geez he’s a good doer - but he’s on the way up beautifully.
“He’s ready to go to the races and I’ll kick him off in a week or two over 1400 metres and just not expect anything. We don’t want to kill him first-up over a mile.
“We’ll aim to peak him at his third run. And once you get up to a mile and 2000 metres in Sydney the races are very winnable.”
Sargent said the trial took nothing out of the three-year-old who was last seen tucking into his lunch.
The Savabeel gelding, who finished sixth in a strong Waikato Guineas field in February and has shown staying promise, has been sent to Sydney by Lincoln Farms to take advantage of the superior stakes.

Race 8: Platinum Attack
4.28pm
“He gets in with 56.5kg and this is a drop back in class for him. His work on Tuesday morning was good and I am very happy with him. He is getting back to a track where he runs his best races and I expect him to be right in the thick of it again. Bruno Queiroz rides from gate seven.”
