Please Mr Weatherman just a little fire out of the track for Dreams Of Platinum on Sunday

Trainer Lisa Latta is hoping to dial up a dead track for Dreams Of Platinum when she resumes in the opening event at Otaki on Sunday.

Latta takes three horses to the meeting but all three are resuming from spells and stablemates Master Lincoln and Lincoln Melody need more ground to show their best.

From barrier three, Dreams Of Platinum is her best chance, with talented apprentice Ryan Elliot claiming 1kg.

“She does go well fresh and from a lovely draw she’ll jump and put herself right there.

“I expect her to go a good race but her coat’s not quite there yet and she will improve with the run.’’

Dreams Of Platinum looked an improver when trialling at Foxton on October 2. She led and fought well for third when headed, pipped by Sunday’s race rival Sophia Magia and stablemate The Rippa, form which was stamped when that horse won fresh-up at Hawera.

Dreams Of Platinum, who won her maiden first-up for five months in August last year, would have a better form line had it not been for the two heavy tracks she struck at the end of her last campaign in June.

“She doesn’t like it heavy nor too good. But we just haven’t been getting the dead to slow tracks she needs. I’ll be hoping for some fire out of the ground on Sunday.’’

Sunday’s race is at just 1600 metres and Latta says she will be happy to see the mare working home strongly.

“It’s a good race for her to start in, against her own sex, and she’ll have a soft run first-up with Tim (Johnson) claiming 2kg.’’

By Savabeel, Lincoln Melody broke maidens at her fifth start over 2050 metres.

Latta says her other runner in the race, Waikato Stud’s Fictitious, would have the advantage having had a run under her belt - she was just nutted when resuming at Waipukurau in September.

Master Lincoln is in much the same boat as Lincoln Melody in the seventh race, says Latta, a stayer resuming over only 1400 metres.

“It’s well short of his best and I just want to see him getting home. He has a fair amount of staying ability.

“His coat has turned and he is looking really well. I decided to claim the 2kg with Tim Johnson as I feel it will help him first-up over a sprint distance.’’

Master Lincoln won his race on a dead track at Waverley in April over 1650 metres and the track was too wet for him when stepped up to a middle distance at his next start.

Latta also lines up equal topweight Platinum Wild Card who, though drawn wide, will be much more at home over the 1400 metres.

Race 5: Billy Lincoln
2.15pm

“He’s drawn beautifully in barrier one with top hoop Kevin Stott to ride and he’s fitter for his three runs back. I think he’ll race very well and is a nice each-way chance. But it’s a very good field - the favouritre Arabian Songbird they think is one out of the box and my other horse Bourbon Empress is also going very well. Put him in your trifectas and first fours. I think he’ll be right there.”
