Kermadec colt Platinum Rain went through the sale ring at Karaka in January for $160,000.

Platinum Rain shows in his first jumpout that he’s one for the little black book

Mark down Platinum Rain as one to follow.

The Kermadec colt has only just turned two but already he has trainer Lisa Latta excited about his potential.

Platinum Rain had his first jumpout in a five-horse heat at Levin today, and, handled by Shaun Fannin, sat second in the running and fought on well down the outer in the home straight to be beaten half a head.

“He is a very nice type and will make a lovely three-year-old,” says Latta. “He has a lovely stride on him and covers the ground well.

“It was great to see him do everything correctly in his first try and he will head back to the jumpouts again at Levin on September 11.”

Platinum Rain, who is out of the unraced Flying Spur mare House Of Borgia, was bred by Gerry Harvey’s Westbury Stud and cost Lincoln Farms and Neville McAlister $160,000 at the Karaka yearling sale in January.

Darley stallion Kermadec had the rare distinction of winning the Group I Doncaster Handicap as a three-year-old. His oldest crop are this season’s two-year-olds.

Platinum Dubai also pleased Latta with her effort, also just beaten in her five-horse heat.

The Pride Of Dubai filly jumped out well for Robbie Hannam, raced in second possie and galloped strongly to the line about a length behind the winner.

“It was a pleasing jumpout and she too will have another go on September 11.”

Platinum Dubai, who will also be raced by Neville McAlister and Lincoln Farms, cost $100,000 at Karaka in January.

Her dam Musical Lady won three races and is a half sister to AJC Oaks winner Rena’s Lady.

Lincoln Farms’ unnamed Real Impact - Latvian Amber filly behaved herself in the gates in the same heat but tried to buck for the first 100 metres, settled last, and stayed there.

“She will learn a lot from the run,” says Latta.

Race 7: Platinum Attack
4.42pm

“He has freshened up really well since his last-start win and I couldn’t be happier with the way he looks. His work has been right up to the mark and he is certainly feeling well in himself. The track was a soft 7 on Wednesday morning and hopefully they don’t get any more rain as I think he will get away with it being in the soft range, but not heavy. Jonathan will look to get cover from the outside draw, and I expect to see him finishing it off very strongly. We will get a line on how good he is if the track isn’t too wet.”
