Larry goes woosh, sprinting the fastest sectionals of the night at Albion Park
With the brand of speed Larry Lincoln showed at Albion Park in Brisbane on Tuesday night he should reward Lincoln Farms’ owners John and Lynne Street with plenty more wins.
The little pacer, handled patiently by driver Hayden Barnes, came from third last with a dazzling sprint four wide round the home turn to score in a 1:54 flat mile rate for the 1660 metres.
Larry Lincoln is just too fast for his rivals at Albion Park on Tuesday night. In winning his third race on end by 1.8 metres, Larry Lincoln posted easily the fastest sectionals of the meeting - 54.59 and 26.97.
Barnes’ dad, Al, who has trained Larry Lincoln to win four of his six starts since arriving in Queensland, said the horse was exceeding even his expectations now.
“That was impressive. Hayden said he didn’t think he’d sprint that quickly but he just keeps improving every time he goes round.
“He’s pacing well and trying hard.”
While Larry Lincoln will advance to a 64 rating now, Barnes said with a five point age concession he will still be eligible for rating 55 to 60 races, like last night.
Lincoln Farms’ stablemate Man Of Action also recorded the fastest last 800 metres in his event, 56.29, sustaining a long three wide run when a two metre second to Nimah Franco.
The race was run a little slower than Larry Lincoln’s event, the 1660 metres taking 1:58.4, a mile rate of 1:54.8.
“He’s a tough bread and butter horse that you’d love to own as he keeps earning cheques.”
Stable big hitter Northview Hustler was due to resume on Saturday night but when only five horses accepted for the race it was canned.
He will now trial between races on Thursday night, which Barnes said should tighten him up nicely for a race the following Saturday.
“He’ll have a quiet trial then he’ll be ready to go.”
Larry Lincoln ran easily the fastest sectionals in the race, making up 13.2 metres on the leader over the last 800 metres.

Race 2: Dreams Of Eric
4.53pm
“He’s drawn out a bit this week but I don’t think that will worry him too much. The driver’s pretty confident and we’ve got hopple shorteners on him to help him burn off the gate. Zac was pretty happy with his run last time. He only did what he needed to and there’s not much difference in the quality of the field. That one of Andre’s who beat him last time (St John Eight) is quite a nice horse who’d been racing well at Auckland.”

Friday night at Auckland
Race 3: Angelic Copy
6.09pm
Update: Scratched
“There is some doubt over whether she will start and we’re taking blood tomorrow morning to see how she is. We eliminated the tie-up problem but after she trained below par this week we took a blood and it showed she had a virus.”
Race 3: Lincoln Linda
6.09pm
“She’ll need a lot of luck from the outside of the second row. She was too fierce again last time, but I’m hoping the likely faster pace on Friday will suit her.”
Race 4: Lincoln Lover
6.40pm
“Lincoln Lover isn’t training as well as Prince Lincoln but he has the inside draw to help him. And he’s a tough little bugger who’s not one to shirk his responsibilities.”
Race 4: Prince Lincoln
6.40pm
“If I had to choose between them I’d say Prince Lincoln is the better chance. He’s training very well and he’d be a chance of getting some of it with luck from his wide gate.”
Race 7: Sugar Ray Lincoln
8.23pm
“I’m not holding my breath. He’s gone some handy races against the very best but he’s not in career best form. I’m just hoping the 2700 metres might suit him better. I think he might need a decent break.”
