Fury set to deliver a knockout blow like Tyson at Trentham on Saturday
Lincoln Fury looks the weekend’s standout winning chance for Lincoln Farms.
With only six moderate rivals in the opening race at Trentham, and the prediction of rain to further ease the track, all the ducks seem lined up for the improving three-year-old.
The Trentham track was rated a dead 5 this morning and metservice is forecasting rain on both Friday and Saturday, which should stop the track from drying out.
Last time at Otaki he handled the slow 8 ground OK and, despite being trapped wide with no cover throughout for Troy Harris, was nailed only a neck in the last couple of strides by Tiro.
“It wasn’t one of Troy’s better rides and this isn’t a strong field,’’ says trainer Lisa Latta.
“Hopefully we end up with a dead track which will suit him.’’
Latta reports the horse has gone ahead in the right direction since Otaki and, drawn two in the small field, should get every chance under capable rider Dylan Turner who with 24 winners this season sits 21st on the premiership.
Only two of his rivals have any form - Thutmosis, a 16-start maiden who finished nearly eight lengths behind Lincoln Fury at Otaki, and Cover Drive who has placed in his only two runs for trainer Kevin Myers, albeit in weaker company at Wairarapa and Wairoa.
Lincoln Fury has not gone a bad race in all six starts this prep and needs only a little more luck to salute the judge.
Two starts back at Wanganui, rider Chris Johnson couldn’t get in from the outside 13 draw and was forced to ease back to eighth. And, just when he was mounting his run, he copped a bump entering the home straight.
The horse did well to pick up nicely again and was only 1.7 lengths from the winner Marietta Lane, unleashing the fastest last 600 metres in the race of 35.53.

Race 7: Platinum Attack
4.42pm
“He has freshened up really well since his last-start win and I couldn’t be happier with the way he looks. His work has been right up to the mark and he is certainly feeling well in himself. The track was a soft 7 on Wednesday morning and hopefully they don’t get any more rain as I think he will get away with it being in the soft range, but not heavy. Jonathan will look to get cover from the outside draw, and I expect to see him finishing it off very strongly. We will get a line on how good he is if the track isn’t too wet.”
