Cheers go up as Kamanda Lincoln draws well for the Auckland Cup
Kamanda Lincoln has drawn beautifully in gate four for Saturday’s $500,000 Auckland Cup at Ellerslie.
News of the good gate, considered essential to the horse’s chances, was greeted warmly by trainer Lisa Latta but not so the alley allocated to stablemate and third favourite Five To Midnight who is stuck out in 13 in the 16-horse field.
And while the bookies’ top fancy Charles Road is nicely placed in seven, second favourite Avondale Cup winner Glory Days landed 15 and fourth favourite Gundown 10.
Cameron Lammas will ride Kamada Lincoln, who powered home after an interrupted run in the home straight last Saturday, and Johnathan Parkes is on Five To Midnight, who was beaten a slender nose in the cup last year from the inside stall.

Race 7: Platinum Attack

“He has freshened up really well since his last-start win and I couldn’t be happier with the way he looks. His work has been right up to the mark and he is certainly feeling well in himself. The track was a soft 7 on Wednesday morning and hopefully they don’t get any more rain as I think he will get away with it being in the soft range, but not heavy. Jonathan will look to get cover from the outside draw, and I expect to see him finishing it off very strongly. We will get a line on how good he is if the track isn’t too wet.”
